Meyer sworn in as Mayor leaves an opening on the City Council
The result of the Frankenmuth City Council election has left an open seat on the panel.
There was a very good voter turnout on Tuesday, November 5, with 3,309 residents casting their ballots from a total of 4,216 registered voters, or a 78-percent rate at the polls.’
The city voters chose incumbent and current Mayor Pro-Tem Tom Meyer to become the next Mayor of Frankenmuth, over challengers Dennis Krafft and Vincent Perratti. Meyer was tabbed pro-tem in the absence of Mayor Mary Anne Ackerman, who passed away in February 2024.
With Meyer elevated to Mayor, there is an opening on the City Council. Meyer was officially sworn in as the city’s fifth mayor Monday afternoon, November 18.
"Because the office of the Mayor was vacant, Section 4.14 (a) of the City Charter requires that the Council fill the vacancy within 30 days thereafter until the second Monday following the next regular city election,” Frankenmuth City Manager Bridget Smith said. "As the Mayoral position is formally filled, the Council seat formally held by now-Mayor Tom Meyer is open.”
The Council position has two years remaining in the term. The position will be up for election at the end of two years, or 2026.
“The Council is particularly interested in individuals who are willing to run for office in two years to retain the position,” Smith pointed out. .....
