Winter weather to greet Zehnder's Snowfest artists and guests

  The horns and confetti had hardly stopped January 1 when the Zehnder’s Snowfest Committee began intently focusing on its annual five-day event in downtown Frankenmuth.

  For the 34th year, Zehnder’s Snowfest will transform the town to destination for the winner arts, from highly-skilled snow sculptors to the precision needed to create breathtaking ice sculptures. This year’s festival will take place starting Wednesday, January 29, through Sunday afternoon, February 2.

  The Top Gun snowmaking machine was churning out water into the atmosphere the first week of January, creating a large dome pile of snow in the rear parking lot of the restaurant. Block building began Monday and continues this week at three different site.

  A majority of the activities will take place around Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth, with other locations including the south parking lot of the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, Frankenmuth River Place Shops, and the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce Platz.

  The fest has seen its share of weather conditions, from the bitter cold of 1995, perfect carving, and spectating conditions in the late 2000s, to the recent warmer temperatures over the past 2-3 years.

  According to the Weather Channel forecast for Frankenmuth, temperatures look to be suitable for the snow and ice artists to complete their work while being near perfect for guests to roam downtown and enjoy the long weekend.

  Snowfest will begin January 29 with the World Class Snow Carving teams continuing to work on their single and double block competitions in Zehnder’s north parking lot. ........
