Motorist who struck cyclists identified; drowning case still under investigation
A driver has come forward, confessing he was behind the wheel of a pickup truck when he struck a pair of bicyclists late last year.
The incident began shortly after 2am on Saturday, December 28, when Saginaw County Central Dispatch 911 sent FPD officers to the intersection of South Main and Flint street for the report of a vehicle versus bicyclists crash.
Officers arrived and rendered first aid to the two men, who were both injured, currently working and living in Frankenmuth, but did not speak English.
The 22-year-old had the most serious injuries. Another co-worker, a female who could speak better English, arrived at the scene and assisted officers in piecing together their information. Although still under investigation, it is believed the cyclists were heading southbound on South Main Street in the curb lane.
“We do not know if the 22-year-old drifted left of the curb lane or not. He also did not have on any reflective clothing and was struck from behind by a Ford F-150 pickup, silver or gray in color, also traveling southbound,” FPD Chief Don Mawer said.
Officers collected evidence at the scene, including numerous pieces of the truck. The downtown surveillance camera also showed what type of vehicle it was, including being able to read the truck’s license plate number. .....
