Lady Eagle spikers wrap up season with awards banquet

  The Frankenmuth High School volleyball program closed its 2017 season with an all-encompassing banquet held at FHS on Sunday, November 12.

  The varsity spikers were joined by the junior varsity and freshmen players to commemorate the season.

  Varsity Coach Shelly Conrad, Junior Varsity Coach Kerri Witbeck and Freshmen Coach Morgan Trinklein each shared season reflections and presented awards.

  For the varsity, sophomore setter Jordyn Conrad was named to the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association (MIVCA) All-Region Team and was recognized as a Tri-Valley Conference East Division second team player.

  Senior middle hitter Mikayla Philp was also selected to the TVC East Division second team. League honorable mention status was accorded to seniors McKenzie Harmon and Grace Kaiser and sophomore Brooklin Karwat.

  The varsity spikers were also honored for their outstanding efforts in the classroom by being named to the MIVCA Team Academic All State. Kaiser and Philip were also recognized as MIVCA Individual Academic All State student-athletes.

  The coaches also handed out individual awards to their players. Players receiving kudos were Emily Coulter, Varsity Team Spirit Award; Philp, Varsity Offensive Player of the Year Award; Harmon, Varsity Eagle Mentor Award; Conrad, Varsity Rising Star Award; Kaiser, Varsity Defensive Player of the Year Award; Leah Schneirla, Freshmen Defensive Player of the Year Award; Stephanie Stone, Freshman Team Spirit Award; Elle Preseau, Freshman Offensive Player of the Year Award; Lauren Hochthanner, Junior Varsity Defensive Player of the Year Award; Sydney Merrihew, Junior Varsity Team Spirit Award; and Danielle Rummel, Junior Varsity Offensive Player of the Year Award.

  North Branch won the TVC East title with a 6-0 record and a 59-4-0 overall mark. This is the Broncos last season in the TVC as their school district has joined the Blue Water Area Conference beginning with the 2018-19 season.

  Birch Run was second at 5-1 and ‘Muth, Caro and Essexville Garber tied at 3-3. Millington ended at 1-5 and Bridgeport 0-6.

  This was also Caro’s last season in the East. They will join the Greater Thumb West next year.

  Carrollton will join the TVC East next year.
