FFD assists DPW with Waste Management truck hydraulic leak

  The Frankenmuth Fire Department responded to a trio of calls for service last week.

  At 10:55pm Wednesday, April 3, the FFD was requested to assist for a residential appliance fire in the 3700 block of South Gera Road (M-83).

  “The homeowner was doing laundry when she smelled something hot.” FFD Lt. Eric MacKinnon said. “While no smoke or flames were detected, the dryer did have some type of malfunction which created a smell and a light haze which dissipated upon Engine 1’s arrival.”

  Firefighters removed the dryer from the home and cleared within 20 minutes. A total of 11 fire personnel responded to the station.

  At 10:38am Friday, April 5, the Frankenmuth Department of Public Works (DPW) alerted the fire department to a large hydraulic leak from a Waste Management dumpster collection truck. The leak started in the 300 block of North Main Street.

  FFD Chief Phil Kerns said the leak started just north of the North Main Street driveway to Weiss Equipment and stretched south to West Schleier Street and then west, ultimately turning into Weiss Equipment’s rear service yard. ....
